250 Water Street

The Preservation Committee of the City Club opposed the SOM scheme for the Howard Hughes development at 250 Water street above all because it treats the western edge of the block, on Pearl Street, as a transition zone where they have designed their building  to be appropriate to the 20th century buildings across the street, which are not IN the district. This move cuts the landmarked block in half. We felt that if the LPC endorsed this proposal it would be an extremely ominous precedent endangering every edge property in every Historic District in the City.

The City Club and the Preservation Committee have testified three times against this proposal.  Here are links to our testimony dated January 2, 2021 and April 6, 2021.
