GRAND HYATT SITE (Former Commodore Hotel east of Grand Central Terminal)

A new building 80 stories+, 2.2 million + square feet building designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill on 42nd street east of Grand Central Terminal to replace the current Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Site of the Hotel Commodore – east of Grand Central Terminal

The proposed SOM scheme for this is so obviously and so painfully inharmonious in scale with the Warren and Wetmore Grand Central Terminal building, not only with regard to building height, but to the scale of the structural elements at street level, that the Preservation Committee of the City Club of NY did not waste time on arguing the obvious but decided to use this opportunity to make a case for the preservation of the few remaining buildings from the Terminal City development.
